The lovely little dancer in the foreground on my home page is Ashley Myers. Ashley did an after school "ballet Club" that I taught many years ago. On the last day, she came up to me and with that crazy passion of a dream in her eyes, said..."THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO DO".
She trained with me from the beginning, privately for about a year, 4 times a week. Then as fate would have it, her dad met the owner of the best Russian ballet school in Denver. Ashley flew out of my little nest and into hard core serious training. Now she is 16, and has just won a scholarship at the Colorado Ballet!
Focused work and effort rewarded!
The fall ballet session begins in September!!!
All dates are posted on the Home page, or the Timbuk Toys page of my website! Eager to see lots of familiar faces, and lots of new ones too!
Today I had a phone conversation with a prospective new students mom.
It was really lovely to hear all of her concerns and questions about what I do and how I do it. If you are considering bringing your child to me, please email me, and ask all the questions you might have!! If it gets too long to type :) I will call you... or even better, meet for coffee (!!)... so you can find out exactly what my philosophy regarding the teaching of young ballerinas is! Thank you Valerie, for your inquiring mind!!
Something amazing about anything one does as an art form is the challenge it presents. This season I moved a bunch of students up to higher levels. One of my girls came to me in tears during the harder class..."Miss Audrey, I am not ready for this class" she said. I sent her back to the barre, and told indeed, she is, and that she would be fine.
Then I went home and thought about it.
I emailed her mom and told her of course she can stay in the easier class!!! My aim is not to push children, but to give them room to grow into themselves :)....I have found it is the only thing way that really works for everyone involved to end up happy!! The discipline of any art form, be it music, dance, or mathematics, already has built in challenges that will "push" the student and develop the person.
Thank you so much for all you do for the girls. Serena and Yesenia adore you and are so excited for the recital. I know with Serena just turning 4 at the end of November her attention span is not always there, but the patience you have with her (especially when she is ALL over the place) has been so inspiring for me to watch as a mom, and the fact that she anxiously waits for every Thursday so she can do "my ballet I share with Senia" every week speaks volumes about the kind and patient teacher you are. Your Little Ballet School has been such a blessing to our family. Yesenia had asked for a few years to do ballet and when I found your school it was a great match for us, and the fact that Serena has been able to join in with her big sister and I have been able to see how willing and happy Yesenia is to help Serena during practice and at home makes my heart so happy.
I cannot say it enough, but again thank you for everything you do and thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for allowing my husband and me the opportunity to have both our girls in an amazing and affordable class. You are such a special woman and your passion for ballet is contagious!
I truly have the smallest ballet school in the country, I believe!
And I love small. 20 students. Two levels. One day a week.
We learn to listen. We learn to think. We learn to focus.
Now and then a student tells me they want to be a ballet dancer.
So I send them off to Classical Ballet of Colorado, where they can study the art form DAILY. So far five of my girls have gone over to "The Russians" as we lovingly call them :)
Here it is fall...finally! I am so happy for the cooler weather....and happy to be rehearsing Angels, and Snowflakes, and darling little Sheep for the Christmas Ballet!!
Miss Audrey danced professionally for 17 years and now loves to teach children.
